Seasons
We hold 2 seasons of 12 meetings: 10 rehearsals, a dress rehearsal and a concert (dress and concert are often held on the same day).
Each month there are 3 weeks of rehearsals and one week off.
Please note our calendar carefully.
Seasons run September-December and January-April.
All activities are concluded by May.
Performances
Discovery Choir, Learning Choir, Advancing Choir all perform once a season, twice a year. A Halloween In-Costume Solo Showcase is held in October (optional) and an auditioned Cabaret is held in Spring. All groups and many soloists perform at our Annual Gala.
Professional Ensemble performs at all of the above and at additional run-out concerts, public appearances, church performances, and fundraisers. Singers are paid a per diem for public appearances and fundraisers.
Liturgical Choir performs throughout the year on select Sundays at a variety of churches, never on Easter or Christmas.
Fundraisers
To keep costs low, YSSJ participates in 2 fundraisers per year.
There is a fundraising buy-out of $50 per season, per singer.
In the Winter, we sell Giambri's chocolate covered pretzels. A great holiday table treat, teacher gift, or hostess gift.
In the Spring, we sell Ozark Lollipops.. These are those huge, crazy-flavored lollipops that sell very well due to their popularity and low price.
Students are charged per bag and they can sell those bags however they wish. (some even make a small profit of their own).
Professional Ensemble is not expected to participate in these fundraisers, but they are asked to perform to help raise funds.
